Dragons finish runners up in Basel U13 Indoor Tournament

posted in: Tournaments, U13 | 0

A total of SEVEN teams battled it out for the Basel Indoor Trophy over the weekend of Saturday 10th (Leagues at Dreirosen & Pfaffenholz) & Sunday 11th March (Knock outs at Pfaffenholz) in Basel .

The Dragons had a mixed tournament but in the end did very well to finish runners up. They started in fine form against Luxembourg, with Ross scoring an outstanding 70 not out and taking 2 wickets. He was ably supported by Charlie taking 4-14 to bowl lux out 33 runs short.

We then took on Swiss U11 in what would end up being the final. Swiss U11 batted first and we bowled and fielded well bowling them out for what we thought was a very “gettable” 159 with Charlie again starring with the Ball (2-39). Good fielding saw 3 run outs, with Fin especially sharp. But in reply we struggled again once Ross was caught out for 7 by a great caught and bowled by Kai. Fin top scored on 11 and we were well beaten by 86 runs. This left a nail biter in the Swiss U11 vs Lux, because if Lux had won Basel would have been relegated to the plate on net run rate (NRR). Thankfully Swiss won by 1 wicket and Basel were through to the Semi Finals.

We faced Cossonay in the 2nd semifinal, who had won all their games the previous day. The boys were really “up for it”, and despite Cossonay getting a good start, the fielding stayed sharp and they imploded at the end of their innings with 4 run outs in the last 2 overs – we were in with a chance. We batted (for once!) with purpose and composure. All batsmen scored runs and we won with  4 balls to spare. We were in the final!

Swiss got off to a great start scoring at 10 an over, scoring freely and never looked back. All batsman scored and they finished on 208 for 3. In reply we struggled against some accurate bowling and got behind the run rate. We also shuffled the batting order to give everyone a bat, which didn’t help us accelerate. We were eventually 135 all out, with Marshall the only man not out, after surviving 28 balls!

Swiss U11 were fully deserved winners, Having not lost a game. Over the weekend a total of 15 games were played, 3374 runs scored and 158 wickets falling! Pure entertainment….!
