The U13s Dragons beat rivals Zurich Crickets in a tense final to lift the trophy.  It was the first time that this cohort had won in Zuoz with a few of them back for the fifth time.  The route to the final had been interrupted by continuous rain on Saturday which meant that the group stages were played indoors for the first time.
Group stage

Dragons 24 for 0 (Eden 12*) beat Zurich Sapphires 23 all out (Jimmy 3 for 8, Eden 2 for 4, Ethan 2 for 5)

In the group stage the Dragons were drawn against La Chat and the Zurich women’s team The Sapphires.  The Sapphires had caused an upset in their first match beating La Chat with an outstanding performance in the field,  so the Dragons needed to quickly get into their stride.  The Sapphires won the toss and chose to bat and opening bowlers Eden and Ethan were immediately on form taking 4 wickets in the first 4 overs.  The wickets continued to tumble as Jimmy picked up 3 wickets bowling offspin.  In reply Eden scored 12* as the Dragons reached the target of 24 without losing a wicket.

Dragons 47 for 0 ( Max H 10*) beat La Chat 46 for 5 ( Tim 10*, Westy 2 for 3)
La Chat won the toss and batted.  Eden was again off to a fast start taking a wicket in his first over and Omair following up with another in over 3. Tim (10*) and Adam (9) then staged a recovery with a stand of 30 before Jimmy bowled Adam.  Westy bowled the final over picking up two wickets including an outstanding one handed catch by Max L to dismiss Henry.  Jimmy and Max H opened the batting for the Dragons quickly picking off the runs to win by 7 wickets and top the group.
Semi-final: Dragons 74 for 2 (Eden 22*) beat Gingins 73 for 6 (Ricky 16, Aditya 2 for 22)
The weather improved on Sunday so all the matches were played outside with just a couple of rain breaks during the day.  In the first semi-final captain Westy won the toss and inserted Gingins.  A fast and accurate opening spell by Eden and Ethan saw Gingins score only 9 runs in the first 4 overs.  Aditya then came on to bowl his leg spin getting lots of turn and bounce, enough to have Kabir taken to a sharp catch by Ethan.  Wilf and Ricky then put together a good stand of 25 before Jimmy bowled Wilf.  Ricky finally fell to Omair for 16 and then Marc, guesting for Gingins, really got after Jimmy, powerfully driving him for 3 consecutive twos. Marc was bowled by Westy in the final over as the Gingins total reached a respectable 73.
The Dragons reply got off to a nervous start as Ethan holed out to a good catch by Shiv in the first over.  Eden and Max H calmed the nerves with an excellent stand of 43 with some carefully placed shots complemented by good running.  When Max was out for 9, Eden and Westy knocked off the runs to secure the place in the final.
Final: Dragons 89 for 5 (Ethan 14, Sai 2 for 8) beat Zurich Crickets 57 all out (Antar 13, Luca 13, Eden 3 for 8)
The final was against old rivals Zurich Crickets who had scored freely to reach the final.  The battle was clearly between the best batting side and the best bowling side in the tournament.  Aryan won the toss for Zurich and elected to field.  Openers  Eden and Ethan got off to a good start until Eden chipped a catch to Sam off Aadi in over 4 with the score on 16.  Max H and Ethan kept out some good accurate bowling but scoring was difficult.  Ethan (14) was bowled by Kabir in over 9 with the score just 46 and when Max H (11) went LBW to Sai the following over, there were 5 overs left and two new batsmen Westy and Omair at the crease.  Zurich kept the pressure on as Westy went for 6 caught by Luca off Sai in over 13 and the score just 66.  Jimmy and Omair then turned the pressure around with a mix of good hitting and scrambling runs.  Jimmy was out in the last over for 4, leaving Omair on 11 and a total of 89.  It didn’t feel like a big enough total but the Dragons knew that if they bowled well and took key wickets they had a good chance.
Eden was in devastating form in his first over.  He bowled fast left arm over in-swingers which saw first Aryan clean bowled then Aadi lbw.  In his next over he bowled Sam but he over stepped and Sam survived thanks to the no ball.  In his third over Eden bowled Sam, this time off a legal ball leaving Zurich 19 for 3 off 5 overs and the Dragons clearly on top.  However the Dragons then struck trouble as wicket keeper Max H had to leave the field with stomach cramps immediately followed by key bowler Omair who pulled a muscle in his leg.  Max L took over the gloves and Marc and Greg came on to field.  In the turmoil  Antar and Kabir staged a recovery with some hard hitting until Aditya’s leg spin saw Antar caught by Jimmy.  The next ball Max L ran out Sai and Zurich were 5 down still 61 short of the target.  Luca came in and really went for it.  Together wth Kabir they added 15 in two overs until Westy bowled a tight over conceding just two off the bat.  Another good catch from Ethan off Jimmy’s bowling ended Luca’s innings for 13 to bring the final pair to the wicket.  The last batsman was Ray, who was a guesting for Zurich but couldn’t keep out a straight yorker from Westy.  Another excellent performance in the field saw the Dragons champions.
Eden was nominated as best all rounder for his match turning bowling spell in the final and total of 6 wickets and 35 runs.  Marc, playing for Gingins, received the award for best bowler taking 7 wickets in the tournament including a hat-trick.
