Basel Dragons U11 175 for 6 dec. ( James W 101*, Max L 20*, Arjun 2 for 41) and 27 for 4 (Marc 10) drew with Rest of Switzerland 185 for 7 dec. (Kyle 100*, Vedant 39*, Arjun 11, James W 4 for 24) and 37 for 7 dec. ( Gianni 10, James W 2 for 4)

The Dragons U11s played a combined Rest of Switzerland team featuring players from Zurich, Cossonay and Gingins at Rankhof on June 28th.  The format was unusual for Swiss U11 cricket in that it was to normal cricket rules with no restrictions on numbers of overs for the bowlers, no retirements for batsman, rebowling of wides & no balls and bowling from both ends of the wicket.  The aim was to play two innings each side but the weather interfered with this as several heavy showers interrupted play and in the end the match was abandoned as a draw with Basel chasing down a second innings target of needing 21 off 3 overs.

The Rest won the toss and elected to bat.  The Dragons got off to an excellent start when James W bowled Nikhil in his first over, Aryan was then run out by Max H and Kian was caught behind by Max H.  Kyle came in and chipped his first ball over the bowlers head to fall between three fielders with onone able to make the catch – a big piece of luck that he made the most of.  When Arjun was bowled by James W in over 8, Kyle was already on 31 and although Gianni was bowled in the same over  Vedant and Kyle put on a massive stand of 104 in the next 11 overs. Kyle cruised past his 50 with some fierce blows. Ably supported by Vedant, Kyle struck four 6’s and fourteen 4’s as he raced to score 100.  The Rest declared shortly after on 185 for 6 with Vedant undefeated on 39.

The Dragons reply got off to a difficult start as first Marc and then James A were bowled by Arjun. James W came to the wicket in over 4 with the score on 11, when Max H (7) was LBW to Kian in over 8 the score was 65 and James was on 41.  Max L and James W then had a long but steady stand putting on 58 until Max retired on 20 in over 20. At this stage James was on 66 and needed to accelerate as the Dragons were still 62 runs short of the Rest’s total. Three overs later he retired on 101 and the total on 168.  The Dragons declared in the next over at 175 with Shiv on 7 not out.

After several interruptions for rain, only 18 overs remained in the match. The Rest batted again quickly scoring 37 whilst losing 6 wickets.  The highlight was a great catch at square leg by Max L to dismiss Kian off James A.  The declaration left the Dragons needing 48 to win off 9 overs.  Sophie and Ross opened the batting but some tight bowling made run scoring difficult and wickets started to fall, after 3 overs the score was 10 for 3.  A good stand between the Veal brothers saw the score recover to 27 until Marc was bowled by Aryan for a quick-fire 10.  A very heavy shower then stopped play and the captains agreed that no further play was possible and the match was drawn.
