Basel Dragons U11’s win Basel indoor tournament

Saturday 22nd and Sunday 23rd March 2014.

A great team performance in the final saw the Dragons U11’s beat rivals Luxembourg by 4 wickets to retain the trophy in their home indoor tournament.  The final was contested by two teams that had won their group stages in a weekend of intense and high quality junior cricket. The outcome of the final would depend on who would dominate: the big hitting Lux batsmen or the Dragons bowlers.  The die was cast in the first two overs when James West trapped Brice LBW and then caught a sharp chance off Tom to dismiss James and Lux were 2 for one.  In over three when James W bowled William then Adithya, the Dragons were really on top.  The score slumped to 12 for 5 when Liam was run out, 16 for 6 when Ethan bowled Alison and the target was just 22 when Siofora was run out.

So it seemed an easy task but this was a final and nerves would play a part. Marc fell LBW to Brice in the first over followed by Max (Ginger) run out in the second and when Ethan was bowled in over the three the score was 6 for 3.  Shreyas and James W held it together and although William bowled an excellent maiden over to Shreyas and Brice had one last determined over, the total was reached and the Dragons had won. Best batsman award went to Brice from Luxembourg and Basel Dragons won best bowler for Tom and best fielder for James A.

Congratulations to all the teams for the quality of the cricket and the spirit in which it was played.  Everyone is now looking forward to Zuoz at the end of May and the Swiss junior championship.
