Close finish to U11s first match at Bachgraben

Basel Dragons U11s 101 for 8 lost to Zurich U11s 102 for 2.

The Dragons U11 played their first match at Bachgraben on August 23rd 2014, and it was fitting that this was against local rivals Zurich. Having played many games on the lightning fast outfield of Rankhof, it was encouraging to see both teams score runs on a grass outfield and proper cricket wicket. The match was also an opportunity for more of the younger players to hone their match skills as a few of the older U11s were not available. As Zurich were short of a full team, Ali, Greg & Soumil played for Zurich.
Zurich won the toss and chose to field. The Dragons managed to score 101 in their 20 overs. Ross, who scored at a run a ball, and Shiv top scored with 10 runs each, Max Lightowlers made 8 and Shreyas 6. The accurate Zurich bowling at the end of the innings saw 5 wickets fall in the last 4 overs whilst only 7 runs were added. The total looked defendable if the Dragons could put pressure on by taking wickets.
The Zurich innings started well, tracking the required run rate, and then Max bowled danger man Kyle in over 4. In the next over, a direct hit from Henry at long leg ran out Vedant. Some good bowling from Shreyas & Shiv pegged Zurich back so that when Kabir retired in over 10, Zurich were behind the run rate at 45 for 2. However the experience showed as Aryan (17) & Luca (6) played carefully and no more wickets fell. Zurich reached the total with a couple of overs to spare.
