On December 15th, 2024, the Basel Dragons Cricket Club celebrated a truly memorable Annual Day, combining tradition and festive cheer in a way that brought the whole club together. This year, the event was extra special as it coincided with our much-anticipated Christmas brunch, making it a day packed with excitement, celebration, and community spirit.
The event kicked off with a range of activities, including player vs parent matches that added an element of fun and friendly competition to the day. These games were a great way to bring players and their families together, showcasing the strong bond within the club. It was fantastic to see both parents and players enjoying themselves on the field, with plenty of laughs, good-natured banter, and some surprisingly skilled performances!
Celebrating Our Players
As always, the heart of the day was the award ceremony, where we took the time to recognize the hard work, dedication, and talent of our players. From juniors to seniors, every age group was represented, and we couldn’t be more proud of the progress each player has made this year.
Junior Awards:
* Player of the Year
* Most Improved Player
* Player's Player
These categories highlighted not only the most talented but also the players who demonstrated significant growth and commitment over the season.
Senior Awards:
* Player of the Year
* Best Batter
* Best Bowler
The senior awards showcased the incredible level of skill and professionalism within our club. We were especially proud to see the dedication of our senior players who continue to lead by example.
Special Awards :
This year, we were excited to present a few special awards that truly embody the spirit of the club:
Bayliss Spirit of Cricket Award: Awarded to Milad Wahedi for his outstanding sportsmanship and commitment to upholding the values of cricket on and off the field.
Club Cricketer of the Year Award: This prestigious award went to Laila Pickard, who consistently displayed passion for the game.
Best Coach Award: A brand-new special recognition, this award was introduced to honor our outstanding coaching staff. The inaugural Best Coach Award was presented to Jason Walden, our senior coach, for his tireless dedication, mentorship, and contribution to developing players at all levels.
Momentos were distributed to players who could not continue with us as they are once a Dragon, always a Dragon!
We took this opportunity to give away the CSPL awards across the age groups and needless to say this year our Dragons out performed all their peers and won almost all the trophies.
Christmas Brunch: A Feast for All
Once the awards ceremony wrapped up, the festive atmosphere continued with our much-loved Christmas brunch. The spread was nothing short of spectacular, featuring a huge variety of delicacies, mains, and side dishes that catered to all tastes. Parents, players, and volunteers gathered around to enjoy delicious food and great conversation, reflecting on the year that was and looking forward to the future.
A huge thank you to all the parents who contributed to making the brunch so successful! Your ongoing support, whether it’s in helping with the club's cricket activities or volunteering at events like this, is invaluable. We couldn’t do it without you!
Player vs Parent Matches:
After the feast, we rounded off the day with another round of player vs parent matches, which added a delightful and competitive end to a wonderful event. It was heartwarming to see the whole family involved, and it was a perfect way to wrap up a day that celebrated not just the achievements of our players, but the spirit of community that makes Basel Dragons Cricket Club so special.
Looking Ahead
As we close out 2024, we want to extend our deepest gratitude to all players, parents, coaches, and volunteers who make events like these possible. This year has been a fantastic one, and we are looking forward to more success, growth, and fun in the upcoming season.
Thank you all for making our Annual Day and Christmas Brunch such a memorable event. Here’s to many more years of cricket, camaraderie, and community spirit!
